The bedroom is not a room like the others. It is the last one you see before sleep and the first on waking. It should support that transition, soothing without lulling you to sleep, inspiring without stirring you up. Choosing posters takes on particular importance here.

The bedroom is where we look for calm, not visual stimulation. A soft poster in a neutral palette becomes a soothing anchor to look at on waking and before sleep.

Favor pastel palettes (sea green, powder pink, sand beige), pared-back landscapes, and botanical plates in black and white. Choose A2 above the headboard, never A1 (too overwhelming). A light wood or white lacquered frame. See our botanical posters or our flower posters.

The bedroom, the room that should soothe above all

The bedroom is where we take refuge. Its decor should slow the heartbeat, not speed it up. A well-chosen bedroom poster calms, structures the wall without shouting, and accompanies bedtime and waking. Here is how to create a vintage bedroom that breathes, with a central poster, natural materials and controlled lighting.

The bedroom, a room for absolute rest

The bedroom is the only room in the house where you spend time with your eyes both open AND closed. A poster here has a double role: it accompanies you as you fall asleep at night, and it opens your gaze in the morning. Poorly chosen, it disturbs one or the other.

1. A pastel or earthy palette

For a soothing bedroom, choose soft palettes: blush pastel, beige, lavender, olive green. Avoid strong saturation (primary red, bright yellow, deep black), which overstimulates on waking or keeps you from drifting off to sleep.

2. Open, calm subjects

Open landscapes (fields, calm sea, dunes), stylized botanicals, exotic birds, Belle Époque portraits. Avoid lively urban scenes, sports subjects and aggressively graphic illustrations. The bedroom dislikes energy.

3. Above the headboard, the single poster

One A2 landscape poster above the bed, centered on the headboard. This is the most soothing option. Avoid a triptych above the bed (too dynamic), which fragments the gaze at bedtime.

4. Symmetry around the bed

If you want more presence, go for symmetry: 2 identical A3 portrait posters on each side of the headboard, at pillow height. Subjects: 2 botanicals, 2 similar landscapes. Symmetry is more soothing than a triptych.

5. The low gallery row for small bedrooms

In a 9-12 m² bedroom, high wall space is scarce. Hang a low row of 4 A5 posters lined up 80 cm from the floor, behind a dresser or on a corner wall. Suitable for a child’s room or a guest room.

6. A light frame, never a dark one

Choose a light frame (oak, beech, bamboo) rather than matte black. A black frame is too sharp for a soothing bedroom. A cream mat extends the feeling of softness.

The bedroom rule: the less you put up, the better. One well-chosen poster is worth more here than 3 mediocre ones. Minimalism is rewarded in this room, unlike the living room or kitchen, which can handle accumulation.

Frequently asked questions

You often ask us

Which poster subjects should I choose for a bedroom?

Belle Époque, soft female portraits, pastoral landscapes, herbarium plates, vintage birds, garden scenes. Avoid sports or industrial subjects.

What poster size works for a bedroom?

A2 or A3 above the bed, A2 or A1 on the opposite wall as a counterpart. Avoid A1 directly above the bed (it feels overwhelming). Center of the frame at 1.5 m from the floor.

What wall color suits a vintage bedroom?

Light, warm tones: cream, off-white, blush beige, very pale sage green. Avoid pure white (too cold). Choose an accent wall in terracotta or slate blue if the room is large.

Which materials create a soothing bedroom?

Washed linen for the bedding, light solid wood for the nightstand and wardrobe, a thick wool rug at the foot of the bed. A bedside lamp with a fabric shade.

Which frame should I choose for a bedroom poster?

Light wood (oak, beech) for Scandinavian style, aged gold or matte black with a gold edge for Belle Époque. Thin molding of 1.5 to 2 cm. Ivory mat of 5 mm.
